OUR HISTORY
Allenspark’s roots go back to 1864, when gold-miner Alonzo N. Allen built the first log cabin a mile east of the current village. Ranchers, loggers, and miners made up the first wave of residents, but they soon discovered the area's potential as a mountain resort. After a second mining boom in 1904, Allenspark turned to serving the many visitors who appreciate the cool mountain air and scenic beauty of the area.
Allenspark boasts two beautiful and unusual churches, the Allenspark Community Church, built of logs in 1924 in the center of town, and the Chapel on the Rock, also known as Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel, built in the 1934 by William McPhee. The chapel is a beautiful example of Rocky Mountain architecture scenically perched on a massive granite rock formation in front of Mount Meeker, one of the area’s high peaks.

Allenspark's economy has always been driven by tourism, with visitors coming to enjoy the area's natural beauty and outdoor recreational activities. In the 1920s and 1930s, the town was also known for its trout fishing, which drew many visitors to the area.

Today, Allenspark remains a popular destination for tourists, who come to explore the Rocky Mountains and enjoy the town's many outdoor activities. The Chapel on the Rock remains one of the area's most popular landmarks and draws visitors from around the world.
